Team Info
The Eagles were formed in 1933 and apart from one season in 1943 - when they joined forces with the Pittsburgh Steelers to play as the Phil-Pitt Steagles due to a player shortage caused by the Second World War - they have remained faithful to the city of Philadelphia and the Eagles name. As a result, their fans have rewarded them with a passion almost unmatched around the NFL. The Eagles won NFL Championships in 1948, 1949 and 1960, but they lost in Super Bowl appearances in 1981 when they were defeated by the Oakland Raiders, and then in February 2005 when they were outplayed by the New England Patriots 34-27. In 2008 the Eagles made their fifth trip to the NFC Championship game under head coach Andy Reid, overcoming a 9-7 regular season to claim a victory over Minnesota in the NFC Wild-Card game and then surprising the favoured New York Giants in a 23-11 Divisional Playoff victory. However, they were halted in the Conference Championship game by the Arizona Cardinals, handing Reid and quarterback Donovan McNabb their fourth loss at that stage of the playoffs in the past ten years.
