Team Info
Formed in 1966, the Dolphins played in the American Football League before joining the NFL in 1970. The Dolphins have appeared in five Super Bowls, winning back-to-back championships in 1973 and 1974. The 1972 Dolphins went undefeated (17 wins, no losses) and won the first of two Super Bowls. They remain the only NFL team to achieve such a feat. However, the Dolphins have not appeared in a Super Bowl since their 1985 loss to San Francisco 49ers with the legendary Dan Marino at the helm. Even with the heralded arrival of coaches Jimmy Johnson and Nick Saban to take over for the legendary Don Shula, the team failed to record that all-important Super Bowl berth. In 2007 Miami became the first team to 'host' a regular season game in London, playing the New York Giants at Wembley Stadium. However, the season proved to be a challenging one as the Dolphins won just a single regular season contest. Cam Cameron was fired after just one season in charge and Tony Sparano was installed as head coach under the guidance of a front office headed up by NFL legend Bill Parcells. Under new management, the Dolphins went from 1-15 in 2007 to 11-5 in 2008 - the greatest single-season turnaround in NFL history. That change in fortune has Dolphins fans dreaming of a return to the Super Bowl in the near future.
