Calvin Johnson is considered one of the finest young players at his position in the NFL. His great size gives him an obvious advantage against smaller cornerbacks, but Johnson also has deceptive speed - recording a 4.3 40-yard dash time before being named the Lions top pick (second overall) in the 2007 NFL Draft.

Team Info

The Lions roared into NFL action in 1934 and have remained in Detroit since their formation. Detroit's best years came in the 1950s when they were led by star quarterback Bobby Layne and running back Doak Walker, scooping NFL Championships in 1952, 1953 and 1957. The Lions have never appeared in a Super Bowl and have struggled in recent seasons. Rod Marinelli was named head coach in 2006, but only lasted two years, culminating in the NFL's first ever winless regular season since the league expanded to a 16-game schedule in 1978. The Lions have a nucleus of good players on offense, including 2009 NFL Draft top pick QB Matthew Stafford and receiver Calvin Johnson, and the addition of head coach Jim Schwartz who was a defensive coordinator with the Tennessee Titans before being hired by Detroit in January 2009 should give the crowd at the team's new stadium - Ford Field - plenty to cheer about in the future.
