Lovie Smith became a head coach for the first time in 2004 when he was hired by the Chicago Bears. Since being the head coach he has led the Bears to two NFC North Division titles (2005 and 2006), won the Associated Press Coach of the Year award in 2005, and led the Bears to the Super Bowl in 2006.

Brian Urlacher is considered one of the toughest and smartest linebackers in the NFL. In 2000 Urlacher was named the Defensive Rookie of the Year. In 2005 he was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year, and in his career he has been voted into six Pro Bowls.

The Bears are one of the oldest teams in the NFL and were founding members of the American Professional Football Association - which later became the NFL. Played as the Decatur Staleys in 1920 and the Chicago Staleys in 1921 before becoming the Chicago Bears in 1922. Boasted pro football's first star in running back Harold 'Red' Grange in 1925. Won NFL championships on nine occasions and also picked up the Super Bowl in 1986, beating the New England Patriots 46-10 in a game highlighted by William 'The Refrigerator' Perry scoring a touchdown. In 2003 the Bears hired coach Lovie Smith to help point them in the right direction again, and they marked the 20-year anniversary of their last Super Bowl win in 2006 with a return to the big game, taking on the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLI in Miami. However, it was not to be - even despite returner Devin Hester taking the opening kick-off back for a touchdown - as the Colts downed them 29-17 in torrential rain. Bears fans took strength from the fact that the team acquired quarterback Jay Cutler during the 2009 off-season - improving a position that had been a sore point for the past few years.
